Types and use of fly fishing rods
Short and medium-short fly rods
Usually, short fly fishing rods (6-8 feet) are used for fishing in small streams, where the space for the cast is limited; the most popular size is the 9 feet, about 2,70 meters, perfect for covering different situations of fishing in the river, the lake or the sea.
Medium fly rods
In the last few years, longer fly-fishing rods, 10-12 feet, have become increasingly popular. These fly rods are ideal for fishing in medium-large rivers, preferably with nymphs or streamers not too voluminous; these lengths allow you to reach even considerable distances without too many problems.
Switch and double hand fly rods
Finally, there are the Switch rods and the two-handed rods, which are often used in large rivers to fish streamer in the right currents of the river, reaching lengths of up to 15 feet with castes over 30 meters! With this type of fly rods, the line plays a fundamental role, which must be chosen according to the weight and depth of fishing you want to reach.
Choosing the right fly fishing rod may not be easy at first, but we can help you with many advice and different types of actions and lengths.
How to choose a fly-fishing rod
Beginner
If you have recently approached fly fishing, you probably need some advice, especially on what rod to buy without spending a fortune but still having a good fly rod to start fishing in the river or lake.
Generally, you start with a resistant fly-fishing rod, possibly lightweight and with a guarantee. The guarantee is essential because, in the first trips (and not only), you can break the rod during the cast phase, hitting the chimney (the most fragile part) with your fly … maybe a streamer.
Most likely you are not yet able to comprehend the difference in the quality of a fly-fishing rod compared to another, but the important thing is to understand if you like to fish with this type of technique.
The first fly rod must be easy to use, it must help you in the cast with a good loading, without putting too much force; it is the rod that must work, and you do not have to struggle!
Key points:
– economical
– versatile
– medium / medium – fast action
– with warranty
In our shop, the fly fishing rods that comply with the key points mentioned above are:

Intermediate
If you’ve been fly-fishing for a few years now, you can easily place yourself between a beginner and an advanced level; you can cast well in distances between 6 and 15 meters and quite accurately.
The weight of the fly rod is starting to be a more important factor, but what matters most is that you feel comfortable with the rod.
You will begin to understand the different actions and responses depending on the tool in your hand. Now you have to spend a lot of time on the river, fishing.
Key points:
– better appearance and construction
– lightness
– medium or fast action
– with warranty

Advanced
If you are in this category, it means that the cast is no longer a problem for you and you start to master even the double traction, casting without significant problems at a distance further away and more precisely than the intermediate level.
You can throw with all fly-fishing rods, but not with all you feel good as they must meet your time to cast on the water, now you are looking for quality fly rods with which you feel good, maybe even use sinking leaders such as polyleaders.
You are specializing more and more, and even if the length of a rod changes slightly, you feel the difference in action.
You appreciate quick-fly fishing rods but at the same time soft ones, it’s up to you!
It is no longer “casting into the water near the fish” but “casting on the fish with an excellent presentation of the fly.”
Key points:
– precision and accuracy
– action of the rod according to your perceptions
– length and type of line depending on the fishing situation
– presentation of the fly
– with warranty

Guideline: model LPX Chrome
Expert
Are you an expert? Now the fly rod is an extension of your arm, and you present the line as, when and where you want.
Even in the wind, you can always get away with it and present the fly with precision and accuracy, always.
Now you know the action of many rods and how they work … you are looking for the perfection that only some brands can offer you!
Key points:
– extreme performance and precision
– lightness
– with warranty
